ABS 3D-Printer Settings
ABS filament 3D-Printer settings
On this page, will find a clear instruction set on how to properly 3D-Print ABS filament with the right settings. If you have more questions, feel free to take a look at our page ‘’3D-Print support’’.
-
Temperature
To properly 3D-Print with ABS filament, a nozzle temperature between 230 – 250 oC is required. To start, choosing a temperature of 240 oC would be recommended. When the nozzle temperature is too low, the ABS filament wont liquefy properly and will cause under extrusion. Read: How to prevent under-extrusion during 3D-printing.
-
Speed
ABS filament can be 3D-Printed at quite a high speed. Speeds above 70 mm/s are possible but will require an increase in nozzle temperature to keep ABS hot enough to remain liquid. Printing at relatively low speeds (<40 mm/s) will give the best results, especially if your print has a lot of details.
-
Cooling
A 3D-Print made with ABS filament is highly susceptible to warping. And therefore it is recommended to keep the cooling fan at a low speed or even turned off to prevent ugly deformities and warping during 3D-Printing. Still experiencing warping? Take a look how to prevent warping.
-
Heating
3D-Printing with ABS filament requires a heated bed to prevent warping. The temperature of the heated bed needs to be at 90 oC minimum. The recommended temperature for the heated bed lies between 90 – 110 oC. Still experiencing warping? Take a look how to prevent warping.
-
Adhesion
To prevent ABS 3D-Prints from warping, a good adhesion with the heated bed is essential. This can be easily accomplished with Kapton tape or spray. The Kapton material will act as an adhesive to make sure the 3D-Print cannot warp and break loose from the heated bed during 3D-Printing. Kapton tape and spray are available on our website.

Finishing
An ABS 3D-Printed object is easily treated to create a lovely finish. With this treatment you can erase the build lines and create a stunning smooth surface. This process does not require and special tools and can be done with common household materials. Read: How to finished an ABS 3D-print with aceton.
