Nylon filament 3D-Printer settings

On this page, will find a clear instruction set on how to properly 3D-Print Nylon filament with the right settings. If you have more questions, feel free to take a look at our page ‘’3D-Print support’’

    • Temperatuur

To properly 3D-Print with Nylon filament, a nozzle temperature between 235 – 255 oC is required. To start, choosing a temperature of 245 oC would be recommended. When the nozzle temperature is too low, the Nylon filament won't liquefy properly and will cause under extrusion. Read: How to prevent under-extrusion during 3D-printing.

    • Snelheid

Nylon filament can be 3D-Printed at quite a high speed. Speeds above 70 mm/s are possible but will require an increase in nozzle temperature to keep Nylon hot enough to remain liquid. Printing at relatively low speeds (<40 mm/s) will give the best results, especially if your print has a lot of details.

    • Koeling-icon

A 3D-Print made with Nylon filament is highly susceptible to warping. And therefore it is recommended to keep the cooling fan at a low speed or even turned off to prevent ugly deformities and warping during 3D-Printing. Still experiencing warping? Take a look how to prevent warping.

    • Verwarming

3D-Printing with Nylon filament requires a heated bed to prevent warping. The temperature of the heated bed needs to be at 90 oC minimum. The recommended temperature for the heated bed lies between 90 – 110 oC. Still experiencing warping? Take a look how to prevent warping.

    • Adhesie

To prevent Nylon 3D-Prints from warping, a good adhesion with the heated bed is essential. This can be easily accomplished with Kapton tape or spray. The Kapton material will act as an adhesive to make sure the 3D-Print cannot warp and break loose from the heated bed during 3D-Printing. Kapton spray is available on our website.

    • Proces-icon

A with Nylon 3D-Printed object is not polish-able like ABS because Nylon does not dissolve in a simple chemical like acetone. Nylon is however still a plastic, so sanding with fine grid sandpaper and then applying lacquer might give you the satisfactory finish you desire.
