PETG filament 3D-Printer settings

On this page, will find a clear instruction set on how to properly 3D-Print PEtG filament with the right settings. If you have more questions, feel free to take a look at our page ‘’3D-Print support’’

    • Temperatuur

To properly 3D-Print with PETG filament, a nozzle temperature between  240 – 260 oC is required. To start, choosing a temperature of 250 oC would be recommended. When the nozzle temperature is too low, the PETG filament wont liquefy properly and will cause under extrusion. Read: How to prevent under-extrusion during 3D-printing.

    • Snelheid

PETG filament can be 3D-Printed at normal speeds (<70 mm/s). 3D-Printing above 70 mm/s will present the risk of causing under extrusion even with a nozzle temperature of 260 oC. A low 3D-Printing speed (<40 mm/s) is therefore recommended.

    • Koeling-icon

PETG filament does not suffer much from warping during 3D-Printing. We recommend using your cooling fan on a high setting during 3D-Printing. A lot of cooling during printing gives the best results because it prevents sagging and messy melts. In this article, the importance of cooling is carefully explained with some different cooled samples.

    • Verwarming

3D-Printing with PETG filament does not require a heated bed. PETG has the ideal property that it does not warp a lot when printing relatively small objects. Only when printing large surfaces, a heated bed at 60 – 70 oC will give you better results. Still experiencing warping? Take a look how to prevent warping.

    • Adhesie

If you do require a heated bed when printing with PETG filament. Make sure you apply some adhesive to the heated bed to make sure the 3D-Print will stick properly to the bed. Effective adhesives that are well suited for this application are products that use Kapton. Kapton tape and 3D-Lac spray are available.

    • Proces-icon

A with PETG 3D-Printed object is not polish-able like ABS because PETG does not dissolve in a simple chemical like acetone. PETG is however still a plastic, so sanding with fine grid sandpaper and then applying lacquer might give you the satisfactory finish you desire.
