Wood filament 3D-Printer settings

On this page, will find a clear instruction set on how to properly 3D-Print Wood filament with the right settings. If you have more questions, feel free to take a look at our page ‘’3D-Print support’’ or contact our customer support service.

    • Temperatuur

      Temperature

To properly 3D-Print with Wood filament, a nozzle temperature between 200 – 220 oC is required. To start, choosing a temperature of 210 oC would be recommended. When the nozzle temperature is too low, the Wood filament wont liquefy properly and will cause under extrusion. Read: How to prevent under-extrusion during 3D-printing.

    • Snelheid

      Speed

Wood filament can be 3D-Printed at quite a high speed. Speeds above 70 mm/s are possible but will require an increase in nozzle temperature to keep Wood hot enough to remain liquid. Printing at relatively low speeds (<40 mm/s) will give the best results, especially if your print has a lot of details.

    • Koeling-icon

      Cooling

Wood filament does not suffer much from warping during 3D-Printing. We recommend using your cooling fan on a high setting during 3D-Printing. A lot of cooling during printing gives the best results because it prevents sagging and messy melts. In this article, the importance of cooling is carefully explained with some different cooled samples.

    • Verwarming

      Heating

3D-Printing with Wood filament does not require a heated bed. Wood has the ideal property that it does not warp a lot when printing relatively small objects. Only when printing large surfaces, a heated bed at 60 – 70 oC will give you better results. Still experiencing warping? Take a look how to prevent warping.

    • Adhesie

      Adhesion

If you do require a heated bed when printing with Wood filament. Make sure you apply some adhesive to the heated bed to make sure the 3D-Print will stick properly to the bed. Effective adhesives that are well suited for this application are products that use Kapton. Kapton tape and spray are available.

    • Proces-icon

      Finishing

A with Wood 3D-Printed object is not polish-able like ABS because Wood does not dissolve in a simple chemical like acetone. Wood filament contains however still a plastic, so sanding with fine grid sandpaper and then applying lacquer might give you the satisfactory finish you desire.
