HIPS filament is very similar to ABS filament when it comes down to printing characteristics and mechanical properties. But HIPS has the edge over ABS by being even more impact resistant. HIPS is also dissolvable in Limonene which makes it very suitable for support material applications.
Pro’s and Con’s of HIPS:
+ Very strong
+ Suited for the use as a support material
- 3D-Printer requires a heated bed
- Plastic smell during printing (requires well ventilated room)
HIPS filament is, with the right settings and proper 3D-Printer, pretty easy to 3D-Print. We do, however, recommend reading the HIPS Filament 3D-printer Settings page thoroughly. Here you will find all the necessary information and proper 3D-Printer settings to start printing successful 3D-Prints with HIPS 3D-Printer filament.
Other specific informational topics about this product can be found under the tab ‘’Specifications’’ under the product picture.
If you are experiencing problems during 3D-Printing with HIPS filament, take a look under the tab ‘’3D-Print support’’ on the top of the page. Here you will find explanations and solutions to many common problems that can occur during 3D-Printing.
If you are unsure about which filament you need to choose for your projects, take a look at our filament comparison page. There you can find a table filled with all the available filaments and their corresponding properties setup so you can find the filament that suits your application perfectly.
